FG Approves ₦10bn for 2026 TETFund National Research Grant

The Federal Government has approved ₦10 billion for the 2026 National Research Fund Grant Cycle of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

TETFund disclosed this in a call for concept notes for the 2026 grant cycle, stating that the funding would support research projects across 30 priority thematic areas.

According to the fund, the research areas are grouped into three broad categories: Humanities and Social Sciences; Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation; and Cross-Cutting.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening research and innovation in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions while supporting projects capable of contributing to national development.

Researchers and academic institutions are expected to submit concept notes in line with the priority areas identified by TETFund for the 2026 cycle.

The ₦10 billion allocation underscores the Federal Government’s continued investment in research and development and its efforts to encourage Nigerian academics to develop solutions to challenges confronting the country.

TETFund’s National Research Fund is one of the mechanisms through which the government supports research activities in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country.
