The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 18 suspected criminals, including a man accused of impersonating a soldier and allegedly involved in car snatching operations across the state.
The command also recovered 47 firearms from different locations in Rivers State over the past two months as part of intensified efforts to tackle criminal activities and improve security across the state.
According to the police, the suspected fake soldier was apprehended in connection with alleged car-snatching activities. His arrest was said to be part of a wider operation targeting criminal networks operating in different parts of the state.
The recovery of the firearms is also expected to aid ongoing investigations into the activities of criminal elements and their alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The Rivers State Police Command said the arrests and recoveries demonstrate its commitment to strengthening security and protecting residents and their property.
The suspects are expected to undergo further investigation before being charged to court where sufficient evidence is established.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could assist in the identification and arrest of suspected criminals operating within their communities.
