Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections and declared his support for the party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Lawal, who was previously associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has in recent months spoken in support of an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. In July, he described the pairing as a strong combination for the 2027 election.
The former SGF’s move comes after Obi and Kwankwaso left the ADC and joined the NDC in May 2026. The NDC subsequently affirmed Obi as its presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate at its special convention.
Lawal’s alignment with the NDC adds another prominent political figure to the party as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
