Court Denies KC Luxury Bail Over Alleged 184.5kg Cocaine Trafficking

The Federal High Court in Lagos has refused to grant bail to businessman and social media influencer Afolabi Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, who is facing trial over alleged cocaine trafficking and money laundering.

Justice Musa Kakaki ruled on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, that the defence had failed to provide sufficient medical evidence to justify releasing the defendant on bail.

Kazeem’s lawyer, Emefo Etudo, had asked the court to grant him bail to enable him to receive specialised medical treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). The lawyer argued that his client’s health had deteriorated and that he required further medical attention.

The prosecution, however, opposed the application, maintaining that the evidence presented by the defence did not establish special circumstances warranting his release.

In rejecting the request, Justice Kakaki said the defence had not provided a medical certificate or expert assessment sufficient to support the application. The judge also held that the defence had failed to demonstrate a significant change in circumstances since an earlier ruling on bail.

The court nevertheless directed the Ikoyi Custodial Centre to ensure that Kazeem had unrestricted access to doctors and medical specialists for any treatment he might require.

Justice Kakaki also ordered an accelerated hearing and adjourned the case until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

Kazeem is standing trial alongside Boniface Sule and Ikechukwu Patriarch on a 22-count charge filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The agency alleges that the defendants were involved in a plan to export 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom in five consignments routed through a Lagos-based logistics company. The NDLEA has valued the seized cocaine at approximately ₦39 billion.

The defendants are also accused of money laundering involving funds allegedly linked to the drug shipment. These allegations have yet to be established in court.

The case is scheduled to resume on November 2 as the court moves to an accelerated hearing.
