Fake Products Threaten Human Lives, Imagine Children Battling Kidney Failure — Ruth Kadiri

Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has raised concern over the circulation of fake and substandard products in Nigeria, warning that the consequences could be devastating, particularly for children.

The actress expressed her concerns in a social media post, stressing that counterfeit products can pose serious risks to human health.

“Fake products threaten human lives. Imagine children battling kidney failure,” Kadiri said.

Her comment comes amid renewed concerns over counterfeit and substandard products in the Nigerian market.

Recent investigations and enforcement operations have continued to uncover fake and unregistered medicines and other products, with health experts warning that some counterfeit products may contain harmful substances capable of damaging vital organs, including the kidneys and liver.

Nigeria has previously witnessed the devastating consequences of contaminated products. During the 2008–2009 “My Pikin” incident, contaminated teething medicine containing diethylene glycol was linked to acute kidney failure in children.

Kadiri’s remarks have therefore drawn attention to the need for stronger regulation and greater caution among consumers, especially parents when purchasing medicines, food, drinks and other products for children.

The actress’s warning also comes as public concern continues to grow over the safety and authenticity of products available in Nigerian markets.
