Deadly Ambush: Police Officers Killed, Others Abducted on Sokoto–Zamfara Road

Armed bandits have reportedly ambushed police officers travelling along the Sokoto–Gusau road, killing some of them and abducting others in an attack on Monday, November 2, 2026.

The officers were reportedly travelling in a Zamfara State mass transit bus, popularly known as Bazamfara, when the attackers launched the ambush.

A source at the scene told Channels Television that some of the officers lost their lives during the attack. However, the exact number of casualties had not been established as of the time of reporting.

Sources within the police force disclosed that the officers were reportedly heading to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, to provide security for the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

In addition to those reportedly killed, some officers were said to have been taken away by the attackers.

The Zamfara State Police Command declined to comment, saying the matter fell under the jurisdiction of the police zonal command.

The spokesperson for Zone 10, Abdullahi Ambursa, confirmed that an incident had occurred but said he was unable to provide further details at the time because he was receiving medical attention. He promised to issue an official statement later.

The identities of the affected officers and the full circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.
