Nigerians Drag Rapper Wale for His Reaction to Wizkid’s International Breakthrough

Wale’s recent identification as a Nigerian artiste has put him in the crosshairs.

Yesterday, Genius tweeted that Wizkid has become the first Nigerian artiste to make the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Wale had a slightly questionable reaction to that report: he replied with a thinking face emoji.

To Nigerians following the MMG rapper, he should not identify as a Nigerian artiste.
Show us your passport first,” one Tweeter user said, and another added, “You know you are not a Nigerian artiste? You’re an American artiste who’s also Nigerian. Two different things.”
And that’s not all. Some alleged that he had previously refused to claim his heritage and was only doing so at a time Nigerian home-based singers are gaining global recognition.

However, a quick check of Wale’s recently modified profile now identifies him as an Nigerian-American artiste. He is actively representing his heritage, hence we think the criticisms are unfair.
What do you think?
