The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, has issued a strongly-worded joint statement condemning the emergency landing of a Nigerian military aircraft on Burkinabe territory.
According to the bloc, the aircraft, which was reportedly carrying 11 military personnel, did not obtain official clearance to fly over Burkina Faso’s airspace before the incident occurred.
The AES described the event as a violation of procedure, stressing that the region’s security situation requires strict compliance with aviation and military protocols. The statement further noted that investigations have been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s presence and unscheduled landing.
More details to follow as the story develops.
