Nigeria is set to commemorate the first posthumous birthday of former President Muhammadu Buhari on December 17, 2025, with the formal presentation of a new book authored by his former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
President Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, would have turned 83 years old this year.
The book, titled Headlines & Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration, captures key moments of governance, communication, and nation-building during Buhari’s tenure from 2015 to 2023. Written from an insider’s perspective, it chronicles how major policies were developed and communicated, and the media dynamics that shaped public perception throughout the administration.
The public presentation is scheduled to hold at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, at 10:00 a.m.
Chief Bisi Akande, CFR, former Governor of Osun State and pioneer Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will serve as Chairman of the event.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, is expected as the Royal Father of the Day, leading other traditional rulers from across the country.
The Mother of the Day is Her Excellency Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, wife of the late President.
A distinguished team of business leaders and industrialists are billed as Chief Launchers, including:

The keynote address will be delivered by former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, OON, CFR, who will speak on the topic:
“Nigeria’s Unfulfilled Global Community Expectations.”
Veteran journalist and Chairman, Editorial Board of ThisDay Newspaper, Mr. Segun Adeniyi, will serve as the book reviewer.
Speaking ahead of the unveiling, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, CON, described the book as both a tribute to President Buhari’s life and legacy and a documentation of the ideas, policies, and values that shaped his administration.
According to him, “This book will serve both as a commemoration of President Buhari’s life and legacy, and as a reflection on the policies, programmes and values that shaped his tenure.”
Headlines & Soundbites highlights the workings of a complex ministry overseeing national orientation, cultural development, tourism promotion, and strategic information management, offering readers a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes moments that defined a presidency.
The event is expected to attract top political leaders, diplomats, business icons, and members of the public as Nigeria reflects on the life and times of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
