Newly appointed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has issued a firm directive to troops across the country, instructing them to “sh%%t on sight” and immediately engage any armed bandits they encounter without waiting for additional orders.
General Musa gave the instruction on Wednesday during his Senate screening, where lawmakers raised concerns about delays in command responses during insurgent attacks. He stressed that frontline troops already possess full authority to neutralise threats the moment they are deployed.
According to him, soldiers must prioritise self-defence and the protection of citizens at all times.
“You are to engage any criminal or bandit that is armed and about to k+ll you. You don’t have to wait. Once you are deployed, you automatically have that responsibility,” he said.
The Defence Minister criticised situations where troops claim to be waiting for clearance while facing imminent danger.
“Somebody is aiming to sh%%t at you, and you’re waiting for orders — from who? If any member of the armed forces deployed anywhere tells you he’s waiting for an order, he is lying and only being a c@ward,” he warned.
Soldiers to Leave Routine Checkpoints
General Musa also announced plans to withdraw soldiers from routine checkpoint duties and redeploy them fully to active conflict zones. According to him, the police and NSCDC will take over standard checkpoint operations while the military focuses on flushing out criminals from the forests and hard-to-reach areas.
“We want the soldiers to go into the bushes and take out these criminals,” he stated.
Security for Farmers Is Top Priority
The Defence Minister emphasised that restoring security for farmers is essential to preventing food shortages and economic instability.
“Farmers must be able to go back to their farms. If people can’t eat, you can imagine what will happen,” he said.
He condemned the rising k+llings across various regions of the country, describing the perpetrators as “a bunch of ev+ll people on dr¥gs” who exploit loopholes in security coordination.
“No Nigerian must be k+lled for whatever reason,” he added.
Musa acknowledged the heavy expectations attached to his new role, promising not to fail the nation.
“I know that I cannot afford to fail myself, fail my nation, fail my family.”
