Troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have sustained major offensive operations across Taraba State, recording significant breakthroughs in the fight against armed criminal groups. The ongoing push has led to the destruction of multiple bandits’ camps, neutralisation of armed elements, arrest of a key suspect, and recovery of weapons.
On 2 December 2025, troops executed a deliberate clearance operation under Operation Zafin Wuta across Shiid, Agia and Tyozua villages in Takum LGA. Acting on credible intelligence regarding armed groups active within the Tor-Tser general area, soldiers advanced toward the mountainous hideouts. On sighting the troops, the criminals fled further into the rugged terrain, abandoning their camps. After a thorough search, the troops destroyed the hideouts—locations the bandits had previously boasted were impossible for security forces to access.
During the operation in Tyozua, fleeing bandits attempted to slow down troop movement by setting a wooden bridge ablaze. Despite this, soldiers pressed forward and forced the criminals across the power line into neighbouring Benue State. One suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested during the operation and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
In another successful operation, troops conducted a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido on 4 December 2025 to disrupt bandits’ movement patterns. While approaching Usmanu village, soldiers were ambushed by armed elements concealed behind Wudompi Community. Troops responded immediately, neutralising two of the attackers and recovering an AK-47 rifle along with 21 rounds of ammunition. No casualties were recorded on the side of the Nigerian Army. The assailants are believed to be members of the Karimjo faction, which has recently attempted to regroup in the area. Security in Karim Lamido remains stable, with troops maintaining heightened alertness.
Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism, resilience and gallantry. He reaffirmed that the operations demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s capability to operate in any terrain and reach any criminal hideout. He further assured Taraba residents that the Brigade remains committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements until peace is fully restored.
