  • Abandoned at the Altar: Woman Shares Harrowing Story of Wedding Day Betrayal and ₦6m Scam

  • A Nigerian woman named Dikachi Esther has shared a heartbreaking account of how what was meant to be the happiest day of her life turned into a lifelong trauma after her fiancé disappeared on their wedding day, only for her to later discover she had been deceived for years.

According to her account, the wedding had been fully planned and both families and friends had arrived from far and near. She and her fiancé, identified as Marcus, had been lodged in hotels ahead of the ceremony. Nothing felt unusual until the early hours of the wedding day.

At about 4 a.m., she tried calling Marcus to ask a simple question about his outfit. His phone was switched off. At first, she brushed it aside, believing there was nothing to worry about. Preparations continued as planned.

By 6 a.m., however, his phone was still unreachable. Growing anxious, she decided to go to the hotel where he had lodged. On arrival, the receptionist informed her that Marcus had checked out the previous Wednesday—the same day she had been with him until evening.

Confused and shaken, she returned home with her elder brother. By then, guests had already filled the house. Friends had arrived the night before, and relatives had travelled long distances to attend the ceremony. Her best lady had even flown in from London just to be present.

With no word from the groom and time ticking, the situation became unbearable. At 8 a.m., the makeup artist was ready to begin, but there was still no explanation for the groom’s absence.

In a bid to prevent public embarrassment, her brother addressed the guests, claiming the groom had been involved in an accident and was receiving emergency medical care. The ceremony proceeded, but without the groom. Her father walked her down the aisle, and prayers were offered instead of wedding vows.

What should have been a joyful celebration felt more like a somber gathering. Guests ate and left quietly, aware that something was deeply wrong.

In the days that followed, the woman revealed to her family that Marcus had borrowed ₦6 million from her during their relationship. Further investigations uncovered a disturbing truth: the man she dated for two years had fabricated his entire identity.

The woman later learned that the supposed mother-in-law she had been communicating with was not real. She was eventually arrested and confessed to being part of the deception. The siblings Marcus had introduced were also fake.

The final blow came days ago when one of Marcus’ acquaintances reached out and confessed that he was, in fact, a married man with three children.

Beyond the ₦6 million loan, the woman says she gave him several other sums of money that were never repaid.

Sharing her story, she said the emotional trauma nearly claimed her life, but she credits God for her survival. She hopes her experience will serve as a warning to others to be cautious, even in relationships that appear genuine.

“This is my life story,” she said. “Please learn from it.”
