EFCC Arrests Fake Instagram Football Agent for Defrauding Aspiring Player of N11 Million

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a man who allegedly posed as a football agent on Instagram and swindled an aspiring player of N11 million.

The suspect, identified as Osagie Destiny Etinosa, was picked up by the commission’s Benin Zonal Directorate following a petition from his victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike. According to the EFCC, Etinosa used his Instagram account to present himself as a well-connected football agent capable of securing overseas trials with clubs in Romania and Bulgaria. He reportedly convinced Ohazuruike that he could arrange international trials for him. Believing the offer was legitimate, the victim parted with a total of N11 million in several payments to facilitate the deal. However, no trials ever took place, and all attempts by the victim to recover his money failed. This led him to file a formal petition with the EFCC. The anti-graft agency said its operatives tracked and arrested Etinosa through intelligence gathered from online platforms. The suspect is currently in EFCC custody and will be charged to court soon to face prosecution for the alleged fraud. This latest arrest underscores the rising cases of scammers who exploit the dreams of young Nigerian footballers seeking opportunities abroad by posing as agents and demanding huge sums for non-existent trials, contracts or transfers. *ReportNaija will keep you updated on the case as it progresses.*
