“I’ll Leave ADC If Primary Becomes Transactional” — Obi Warns

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has warned that he will exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if the party’s primary process is compromised by monetary influence or political bargaining.

Obi made the statement while addressing concerns about internal party democracy, stressing that credible primaries must be based on transparency, fairness, and the will of party members—not financial inducement.

The former Anambra State governor cautioned against what he described as “transactional politics,” where candidates emerge through financial leverage rather than merit.

He noted that such practices undermine democratic values and weaken public confidence in the electoral process.

Obi maintained that his continued involvement in any political platform depends on its commitment to integrity and due process.

According to him, any deviation from a fair and transparent primary system would make it difficult for him to remain within the party.

His comments are seen as part of a wider call for reforms within Nigeria’s political system, particularly as parties begin early positioning ahead of future elections.

Obi has consistently advocated for issue-based politics, accountability, and a level playing field, positioning himself as a proponent of electoral credibility and good governance.
