Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of proceedings in the corruption case instituted against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises in the company of security personnel, including operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The former governor is facing charges bordering on alleged abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
The ICPC alleged that public funds were improperly disbursed for projects that were either not executed or were allegedly managed in violation of due process.
El-Rufai has, however, denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
At Monday’s proceedings, the court was expected to entertain pending applications and hear arguments from both the prosecution and defence as the trial continues.
The former governor was granted bail on April 14, 2026, by Justice Rilwan Aikawa in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties. The court directed that one of the sureties must be a serving or retired civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the second must be a recognised traditional ruler.
His legal team subsequently filed an application seeking a review of the bail conditions, arguing that some of the requirements were difficult to meet.
