Tunisia sack Head coach after defeat in their World Cup open match

Tunisia has sacked head coach, Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the World Cup, according to journalist Romain Molina

The 54-year-old was appointed in January 2026 and had signed a contract that was due to run until July 2028. However, his stint with the national team has ended after just one game at the tournament.

Lamouchi boasts an extensive coaching résumé, having previously managed clubs including Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Rennes and Al-Jaish. He also previously coached the Ivory Coast national team. The decision marks a rare moment in World Cup history, as Tunisia have played only one match at the tournament before parting ways with their coach.

Tunisia still have two group-stage fixtures remaining, with matches against Japan on June 21 and Netherlands on June 26.
