FG Bans Motorcycles, Tricycles From Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of efforts to protect the newly constructed road infrastructure.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olufemi Dare.

According to Dare, the decision is aimed at preventing misuse of the highway and preserving its condition for long-term use.

He explained that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major national infrastructure project that requires proper maintenance to ensure its durability and safety for all road users.

Trucks Also Barred From Indiscriminate Parking

In addition to the ban on motorcycles and tricycles, the ministry warned that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the highway would no longer be tolerated.

Dare stated that the restriction applies not only to the coastal highway but also to all bridges across Lagos State.

He further condemned the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable and harmful to public infrastructure.

The Federal Controller disclosed that road signs indicating the new restrictions have already been installed along the highway to guide motorists and other road users.

He added that task force officials would be deployed to strategic locations to monitor compliance and enforce the directives.

Warning that violators would face strict enforcement measures, Dare urged members of the public to obey the regulations in the interest of public safety and the preservation of the highway.

He described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure that must be protected from activities capable of causing damage or reducing its lifespan.
