Fani-Kayode Urges Sultan, Tinubu to Caution Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir Over Comments on Christians

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has called on the Sultan of Sokoto and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to publicly caution Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, over comments attributed to him concerning Christians and Christianity.

Fani-Kayode made the call while reacting to remarks reportedly made by the cleric, which he said had the potential to heighten religious tension and deepen divisions among Nigerians.

The former minister urged the Sultan and the President to publicly address the matter, stressing the importance of responsible leadership and the need for religious leaders to promote peace, tolerance, and unity in a religiously diverse country like Nigeria.

According to Fani-Kayode, comments capable of offending or provoking members of another faith should be handled carefully, particularly at a time when the country continues to face security and social challenges.

He further appealed to Muslim and Christian leaders across the country to use their influence to promote peaceful coexistence and discourage rhetoric that could inflame religious sentiments.

The former minister's comments have added to the ongoing public debate over the role of religious leaders in promoting unity and maintaining peaceful relations between Nigeria's various religious communities.
