President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the rollout of an additional 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria as part of efforts to expand access to cheaper and cleaner fuel alternatives.
The directive is aimed at accelerating the Federal Government’s CNG initiative and ensuring that more Nigerians have access to CNG as an alternative to petrol and diesel.
The expansion is expected to increase the availability of CNG infrastructure across the country, particularly in areas where motorists and businesses have limited access to existing conversion and refuelling facilities.
The Federal Government has promoted CNG as part of its broader strategy to reduce transportation costs, ease the impact of fuel subsidy removal and encourage the use of Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources.
The rollout of the additional stations is also expected to support the growing number of vehicles being converted to CNG, while creating opportunities for investment and job creation within the emerging gas-based transportation sector.
The latest directive underscores the administration’s continued push to deepen the adoption of CNG and develop the infrastructure required to support a nationwide transition to alternative fuels.
