The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate and former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
Kwankwaso made the call while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association, who paid him a visit at his residence in Abuja.
The former Kano State governor reportedly appealed to Atiku to reconsider his decision to contest the 2027 presidential election, although he did not indicate that the former vice-president had agreed to the request.
Kwankwaso’s call comes amid increasing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and political parties working to strengthen their respective platforms.
Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s vice-president from 1999 to 2007, remains one of the prominent figures positioning himself for the 2027 presidential contest.
Kwankwaso, meanwhile, is expected to play a key role in the NDC’s campaign as the party prepares for the election.
