President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated legendary Nigerian musician, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade, as he clocks 80.
In a birthday message, President Tinubu described the juju music icon as an embodiment of musical excellence and cultural ambassadorship, praising his contributions to Nigerian and African music over the past eight decades.
The President said King Sunny Ade’s exceptional talent, creativity, discipline and passion helped transform juju music into a globally recognised Nigerian cultural treasure.
According to Tinubu, the veteran musician has used his music to preserve Nigeria’s cultural identity, celebrate the country’s traditions and showcase its rich heritage to audiences around the world.
He also commended King Sunny Ade’s contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry, noting that his achievements and longevity have inspired generations of musicians and other practitioners in the sector.
Tinubu congratulated the music legend on reaching the milestone and prayed for his continued good health, wisdom and many more fulfilling years.
King Sunny Ade, who turns 80 on September 22, 2026, remains one of Nigeria’s most internationally recognised juju musicians.
