The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered additional components from its ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as search and recovery operations continue at the accident site.
The Air Force disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, noting that multi-agency teams were sustaining efforts to locate and recover more components from the wreckage.
According to the statement, specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) are conducting underwater search and recovery operations in collaboration with the Air Force’s recovery team.
The ongoing operation involves hydrographic surveys, satellite-based search-and-rescue imagery, mud excavation and the pumping out of excess water to improve access to areas of interest.
The measures are aimed at helping recovery teams reach submerged sections of the crash site and retrieve additional aircraft components.
The Air Force said the operation was continuing through the coordinated efforts of the agencies involved.
The recovery exercise is part of efforts to examine the crash site and support the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the aircraft accident.
