Popular Zambian model and socialite, Lisa Mutambo, has died after reportedly vomiting and losing consciousness at her residence in Lusaka’s Kalundu area following a night out with friends.
The 25-year-old’s death has sparked speculation on social media, with some reports claiming that she was beaten to death by her boyfriend. However, the Zambia Police Service said no physical injuries had been observed on her body as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
According to police deputy spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha, the incident was reported to Chelstone Police Station at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Police said Mutambo had spent the previous evening with two female friends at a hotel where she served as an ambassador. The three women later left the hotel at about 10:30 p.m. and continued socialising at another drinking spot in Lusaka.
Between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., Mutambo’s boyfriend, identified by police as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, reportedly arrived and picked up the three women.
He dropped the two friends in the Minestone/Casanova area before proceeding with Mutambo to their residence in Kalundu.
Police said that shortly after they arrived at the residence, Mutambo started vomiting and later became unconscious.
Her boyfriend reportedly contacted a friend, who assisted in taking her to Victoria Hospital. She was, however, pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the incident, police officers visited and processed both the primary and secondary scenes as they began investigating what led to the young woman’s sudden death.
Her body was initially deposited at FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police said no physical injuries had been observed on the body.
An inquiry file has been opened, while investigations are ongoing to establish exactly what happened to Mutambo before her death.
The Zambia Police Service has assured the public that further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
